Is my child ready for this distance?

If your child cycles regularly and enjoys the adventure of cycling along trails or paths, then they can handle the distances. We do use side streets and bike lanes so they should have experience on the road for the start of camp. We ride for 20 minutes at a time and break for water, stretching, or because we saw something that the kids are curious about.
This camp is great for the child who is craving independence.

Why do they have to be able to pass a swim test?

We cycle to pools where all ciclistas will need to pass the deep end test in order to show their skills. In the case of swimming at the beach where there is no test, campers will respect the comfortable limits of the ride leader.

Why does the tire size matter if my child is confident on their bike?

For short distances or very seasoned cyclists, tire size doesn't make a huge difference. While it's a children's camp (and we NEVER race), over the course of a day (think 30 degrees in the sun), all the extra pedaling to make up ground adds up. We've tried to accommodate smaller tires for the older kids the last couple of summers, and the child with the little wheel bikes ends up having LONG frustrating days because everyone is pedaling easy while they're working so hard.
